Overview
Tepezza is a prescription drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of thyroid eye disease. Tepezza is also known by its drug name, teprotumumab-trbw.

Scientists believe Tepezza works by inhibiting the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor, which plays a role in the development and progression of thyroid eye disease. By blocking this receptor, Tepezza can reduce inflammation, swelling, and other symptoms associated with the disease.

How do I take it?
Tepezza is administered as an intravenous infusion once every three weeks for eight infusions. Each infusion should be administered over a period of 60 to 90 minutes. Tepezza should be taken exactly as prescribed by a health care provider.

Side effects
Common side effects of Tepezza include muscle spasm, nausea, hair loss, diarrhea, fatigue, high blood sugar, hearing impairment, dry skin, changes in the sense of taste, headache, weight loss, and nail disorders.

Rare but serious side effects may include high blood sugar, infusion reactions, and severe hearing impairment — which in some cases may cause permanent hearing loss. Tepezza can also worsen preexisting inflammatory bowel disease. It's important to monitor for symptoms of these conditions and discuss any changes with your health care provider.
